Why marriage counseling? Marriage is an on-going event, thus requires care and maintenance. Like cars, every marriage could use a tune up every so often. Studies show the first and seventh year of marriage tend to be the most difficult. Like seeing a doctor regularly to avoid having a really big issue later (having accumulated over some time), it is best to see a therapist more often than just when everything is falling apart. Don’t let small issues accumulate, come to therapy to avoid problems. Think of it as seeing a dentist for a regular teeth cleaning as opposed to only going when you have a painful cavity that requires a root canal. Therapy can be like preventative medicine in that sense.
